Spend a morning behind the scenes on Snipe Clough Farm with Georgia Forsyth, Urban Farm & Landscape Manager. Explore the Farm as part of a small group. Learn about syntropic farming methods, conservation, growing in a changing climate, and natural, sustainable and seasonable farming practices. Hear how we’ve transformed four acres of poor-quality grassland into a beautiful, productive Farm and thriving community of land-based businesses and volunteers.

Snipe Clough Farm is a four-acre working urban farm. Situated directly in front of our Welcome Building, it has views of Hartshead Pike and the Peak District foothills. Once a valley and a coal mine, Snipe Clough Farm was flattened with clinker before becoming allotments, stables, and a school playing field. Now this poor-quality, post-industrial grassland has been transformed into a productive 4-acre Farm using regenerative farming principles.

Produce grown on the Farm is transported 200 metres from the farm to our kitchen, where it is crafted into the freshest seasonal fare for our Café and Shop. Overseen by our Chef Partner Mary-Ellen McTague, the menu changes throughout the seasons, reflecting what’s being harvested from the Farm.

Showcasing urban farming at a scale rarely seen in the UK, Snipe Clough Farm intertwines conservation and production, providing healthy locally grown food to local communities at affordable prices, and enabling people to access training, education, jobs, volunteering and business opportunities within the land-based sector.

Georgia Forsyth, Urban Farm & Landscape Manager, is a trained agronomist, ecologist and tree surgeon whose interest in growing originated in her local council estate community garden in Edinburgh. She studied ecological and environmental sciences, and organic agriculture. After working in journalism and photography, she came back to her neighbourhood to work in community food growing.

During her career Georgia has managed a diverse array of sites and projects, including a historic walled garden and a primary school farm, teaching hundreds of children how to farm through a two-year programme.

Georgia has worked in agricultural research in multiple countries and on projects that redirect food waste to charities that can use it. She has worked on and designed regenerative farming systems for land from half an acre to thousands of acres, in both rural and urban areas.
