Our Natural Health Service

Over the past six months, we have been piloting our Natural Health Service social prescribing programme in partnership with Hill Top GP Surgery in Fitton Hill, Oldham. GPs at the practice can refer patients who they think would benefit from access to nature, growing, creativity and community at Northern Roots.

Our first group of participants have seen some amazing improvements to their health and wellbeing, so in the coming weeks we will be broadening access to more local residents.  Keep an eye on our social media and this webpage for opportunities to get involved.

Our Natural Health Service pilot has been made possible by the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Testimonials

“This is a new world where we can leave everything stressful behind and have some time for us.” Participant, Natural Health Service, Northern Roots

“I’m grateful for walking together – the three of us, through the woods. It kind of felt like home.” Participant, Natural Health Service, Northern Roots

“I met three new people today and did some activities and woodworking. All in all, a great day.” Participant, Natural Health Service, Northern Roots

“Coming here is already making a difference. When I feel worked up at home, I think about when we’re here in the trees and I put my hands on my stomach and say, take a deep breath.” Participant, Natural Health Service, Northern Roots

“One patient, who had support appointments every 4 – 6 weeks before joining the Natural Health Service, has requested to book appointments only as and when they need them in future. She says she no longer needs this level of support and has expressed loving her time at Northern Roots.” GP, Hill Top Surgery, Fitton Hill

“I haven’t seen another patient, who came to me with anxiety, since she was referred to Northern Roots four months ago.” GP, Hill Top Surgery, Fitton Hill
