October is a beautiful month at Northern Roots. The Urban Farm is brimming with beetroot, squash and leeks, we’ve got a range of workshops and walks on offer across autumn, and if you’re looking for somewhere special to relax or meet with friends, our cafe is open Thurs-Sun, 9am-4pm.
What’s On this Autumn
From Mushroom Forays and Winter Wreath workshops to a specialist, behind the scenes tour of Snipe Clough Farm, we’ve got a range of workshops, walks and events on offer from October onwards. We’ll be adding to our offer in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on our What’s On for further details.

Outdoor play
Looking for somewhere to bring the kids where they can get outdoors and play? Our free outdoor Play Area sits right in front of our Welcome Building so grown ups can enjoy a coffee on the terrace while the children play.
Our play area has three zones:
- Physical and imaginative play for younger/primary age children.
- Waterplay and a large sand pit that will appeal to all ages (including parents and carers!).
- More challenging climbing and collaborative play for older, bolder young people.
Some equipment is designed to be accessible to wheelchair users.

Shop
Browse a carefully curated selection of produce fresh from our farm, gifts, books and handcrafted products. Every item has a story to tell, inspired by nature, heritage and community. Your purchase supports the charity’s work.
As the seasons change, so will our shelves. Expect freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, plants and seeds, and Northern Roots preserves and chutneys. Our produce and products celebrate the variety of crops grown on our Urban Farm and ensure food waste is kept to an absolute minimum.
We’re proud to champion independent producers, artists and craftspeople from Oldham, alongside the community of businesses operating at Northern Roots. By shopping with us, you’re helping to support local and regional businesses, and nurture creative and heritage craft skills.
We are open Thurs-Sun, 9am-4pm. Last orders for hot food are 3pm. Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome.
