There’s a chill in the air and the nights are drawing in, and though the days seem shorter, there’s still lots to see and do at Northern Roots.

Community Roundhouse Build
”I hope when people visit, they see that it was lovingly made and a lot of effort went into it!” Eloise, Roundhouse Volunteer
If you’ve visited our site in the last few weeks, you may have seen a new structure being built.
Thanks to funding from the Greater Manchester Environment Trust, we’re building a community roundhouse with the help of an amazing team of volunteers. Together we’ve learnt traditional building techniques, shared skills and expertise, and created a long-lasting community asset.
Once complete, the roundhouse will provide a welcoming space for visitors, school children and the local community to learn, gather and spend time together.

Snipe Clough Urban Farm
Over in the urban farm, we’re working closely with the seasons. Now is the time for preparing for winter by harvesting, preserving and drying.
In our polytunnel we’re drying herbs such as coriander, which will be used over winter to add flavour to our delicious café meals.
Common Cloth, one of our on-site businesses, is drying flax, which was harvested with the help of visitors and children on our very first day open. This will later be used for natural dyeing and fibre crafts, and visitors will be able to book onto sessions. Learn more about Common Cloth here or check out the beautiful, natural yarns and gifts items in our shop.
We’re also ripening the last of the tomato harvest. This is a traditional technique that allows us to extend the tomatoes season– it also makes our polytunnels look very autumnal and whimsical!

We are open Thurs-Sun, 9am-4pm. Last orders for hot food are 3pm. Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome.
