Arts and Culture
Learn more about our commitment to providing high quality arts and culture.
Northern Roots aims to bring people together in nature through arts, culture, heritage, sport, food and wellbeing. And our 2025 What’s On programme did just that.
We worked with a diverse range of artist practitioners, chefs, performers, and cultural and community organisations, as well as our talented in-house team of growers, creatives and Rangers, to create a programme of activities and events for visitors – and we welcomed over 1900 of you to the Northern Roots site.
Whether you joined us each week for our Urban Farm Produce Sales and Family Thursdays, attended our art, wellbeing and foraging workshops, or visited our large-scale free events such as The Big Viking Takeover or Game On!, thank you for getting involved at Northern Roots.

In summer 2026 Northern Roots will open a brand-new Visitor Centre, with café, shop, multi-functional spaces, production kitchen and prayer room.
Situated on the edge of woodland, the Visitor Centre will look out over the foothills of the Peak District and four acres of Urban Farm, with inspirational play facilities and a small natural amphitheatre to one side.
These new facilities will enable Northern Roots to program a wide range of events, performances, exhibitions and workshops, and we will continue to work with a range of partners, artists and communities to develop our What’s On offer.
The best way to get involved in the Northern Roots community is to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Linked In for updates on our development. You can also sign up to our newsletter, for opportunities and events straight to your inbox.
We look forward to welcoming you to Northern Roots in 2026!
