Ten Thousand Steps Around the World

Ten Thousand Steps Around the World was devised by Lingua Franca World Community CIC as a unique walking arts experience at Northern Roots. A way of taking art out of conventional gallery and theatre settings into green spaces and encouraging audiences to get active.

On a particularly beautiful May afternoon in Oldham, audiences were guided around the 160-acre Northern Roots site. Along the way they got to meet, listen to and interact with a diverse range of artists, performers and makers, including ceramists, performance poets, musicians and sculptors.

Ten Thousand Steps Around the World was a collaboration between Lingua Franca World Community CIC and Northern Roots. Lingua Franca World Community works to promote visibility and opportunities for diverse artists, enabling them to share their cultures and skills and raise understanding between the diverse cultures of the UK.

The project was funded by Arts Council England and the Culture Recovery Fund.
