From show-stopping outdoor performances and banging dhol beats to family friendly workshops and live music, there’s something for everyone at Khushi Festival.
Presented in partnership with Women’s CHAl project and Oldham Coliseum Theatre, and supported by Oldham Council, Khushi’s celebration of South Asian talent will be taking over Oldham for a weekend of joy, laughter and creativity on the 2nd and 3rd of August.
Northern Roots is proud to host part of Khushi Festival at our 160-acre site in the heart of Oldham on Sunday 3rd August. From the magical performances of Mughal Miniatures and The Moving Meadow to the nature-inspired Mandala Making Workshop, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
Sonia Sabri Company: Mughal Miniatures – Sunday 3rd August at Northern Roots
Join us where proud peacocks strut, cheeky gazelles play, princesses dance in the monsoon rains. But the tranquility of the gardens is shattered as fearsome hunters spot their prey. Will harmony and balance be restored? Mughal Miniatures explores the relationship between humans and the natural world through expressive dance, evocative puppetry and incredible music.
Sonia Sabri Company (SSCo) creates music and dance that is progressive, accomplished and sincerely felt. Our work is relevant to audiences today: making connections across cultures and generations, strengthening community understanding and increasing wellbeing through performances, workshops, and talent development.
Performances take place at 1pm and 2.30pm on Sunday 3rd August at Northern Roots, Kings Road, OL8 2BJ.
Performances are FREE but must be booked in advance.
The Moving Meadow – Sunday 3rd August at Northern Roots
The Moving Meadow is a vibrant community art project that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Oldham’s South Asian community while responding to the harmful effects of climate change. It engages the women from The CHAI project in creating large puppets and artworks inspired by beloved aspects of nature and wildlife from the countries of their heritage, utilising the broad range of skills the ladies already bring to the table. The project culminates in a procession of animals and flowers significant to the group.
Crooked Arts was founded to bring communities together through visually striking and thought-provoking art. With backgrounds in Applied Theatre and Community Drama, Crooked Arts combine skills in participatory arts, theatre, and visual storytelling to create work that invites people to engage, reflect, collaborate, and respond.
Performances take place at 12.30pm and 2pm on Sunday 3rd August at Northern Roots, Kings Road, OL8 2BJ.
Performances are FREE but must be booked in advance.
