Species Surveying at Northern Roots: Pond Dipping

Thursday 19th June, 11:30am – 3:30pm

Join our friendly team of Rangers for a day of pond dipping and species surveying at Northern Roots, learn new skills and help us find out what lives in our ponds.

This year at Northern Roots, we’re surveying species and collecting and recording the data. From bats and birds to plants and insects, we’re going to be finding out what currently lives on the site, so we can continue to improve habitat and support wildlife to flourish.

In this session we’ll be looking at our ponds and surveying species such as aquatic invertebrates, floating plants and potentially amphibians at various life stages. You’ll get the chance to gather your own water samples, and our expert Rangers will help you identify the species of the creatures you find and share their knowledge of aquatic wildlife. The data you help us gather will inform how we protect wildlife and create thriving habitats at Northern Roots in future.

This session is suitable for all ages, but children must be 8+ and accompanied at all times by an adult.

This session is made possible by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
