Past to Present – Guided Walk with Northern Roots Heritage Champions

Join us for a guided walk at Northern Roots, exploring the many layers of rich heritage through maps, images, forgotten stories and poetry.

Discover the stories of Brook Mills, a mill that once sat on the Northern Roots Brook Mills Gardens, visit the site of Victorian visitor destination Strawberry Gardens, the forgotten homestead and residents of Cherry Valley, and retrace the tracks of the Oldham to Ashton railway, now locally known as Tip Road.

As we explore site, we’ll bring the fascinating history of the site back to life, celebrating the people, places, and events that have shaped this area over generations.

This guided walk is led by our Heritage Champions, who have spent a year researching and connecting with local residence on a paid, part-time basis, thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We’ll also share our exciting plans for the future of the site, including the new Welcome Building with café and shop, Forestry Skills Centre, 4-acre urban farm and outdoor play, which will open to the public this autumn.
