Councillor Abdul Jabbar, MBE, is the Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and elected member for Coldhurst ward since 1994. He has been the council’s Cabinet Member for Finance since 2011, is responsible for Oldham’s Climate Change Strategy and is Chair of the Northern Roots Board.
Councillor Jabbar is passionate about protecting the environment and totally committed to Oldham’s green agenda. He has championed a number of environmental initiatives, including Oldham Community Power, and was instrumental in setting up Northern Roots, a priority project for the borough.
The UK showed International Leadership when it hosted the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow in November 2021, setting out how the world responds to this very important challenge. Councillor Jabbar is committed to ensuring that Oldham is at the forefront of meeting that challenge and making Oldham the greenest borough in Greater Manchester.
