Northern Roots is located in the heart of Oldham, Greater Manchester.  The 160-acre site offers a diverse mix of woodland, wetland, moorland and meadow, a tranquil haven for birds, wildlife and visitors, just 20 minutes’ walk from the tram.

Northern Roots stretches for a mile and a half from Oldham’s award-winning Alexandra Park down to Park Bridge Heritage Centre and the River Medlock, where it looks out onto the foothills of the Peak District. From here you can access the Hollinwood Branch Canal and Daisy Nook Country Park.

Main Entrance: Kings Road, Oldham, OL8 2BJ (on the corner, where Kings Road meets Honeywell Lane)

We have a small, free car park for visitors. You can also access Northern Roots on foot, bike and horseback via footpaths from local areas such as Glodwick, Alt, Hathershaw, Fitton Hill and Bardsley.

Northern Roots is 20 minutes on foot from Oldham town centre, and close to bus and tram routes. Plan your journey using public transport here.

There are currently no toilets or indoor facilities on the site. Neighbouring Alexandra Park has public toilets, a children’s playground and a café.

Northern Roots has a mixture of surfaced and un-surfaced paths, so isn’t yet fully accessible to wheelchair users and mobility scooters.

The Northern Roots site is open and accessible to the public seven days a week. If you see a Northern Roots team member, please say hello.
