Northern Roots Oldham Garden
Showcasing the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park at the world’s largest garden festival
Northern Roots is delighted to be teaming up with award-winning garden designer Peter Donegan on a very special show garden for RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2020.
The Northern Roots Oldham Garden has been designed to showcase the Northern Roots project and Oldham’s ambition to be the greenest borough in Greater Manchester. At a time of increased concern about climate change and environmental crisis, Northern Roots is pioneering how we utilise vital urban green spaces to provide economic and social benefits to local communities, whilst preserving and enhancing our natural environment.
‘We’re thrilled to be working with Peter on the ‘Northern Roots Oldham Garden’, a garden that nods to Oldham’s rich Industrial heritage and diverse communities, whilst celebrating its current renaissance as a centre of green excellence’ Anna da Silva, Project Director, Northern Roots
Paying homage to Oldham’s rich Industrial past, the Northern Roots Oldham Garden will incorporate York stone salvaged from Oldham’s iconic Grade 2 listed Town Hall and 19th century mills. With its striking orange roof structure, which will be constructed by Oldham-based fabricator and entrepreneur Frank Rothwell of Manchester Cabins, it also looks firmly to the future. After the Show, the Northern Roots Oldham Garden will be relocated back to Oldham to form the focal point of our new Northern Roots centre on Snipe Clough – a space for people to come together to learn, grow, connect and create.
Building on their success at RHS Flower Show Cardiff 2019, Irish designer Donegan will once again team up with Burnham Landscaping, who have worked on 18 RHS show gardens to date, CED Stone Group, and growers Hortus Loci. We’ll be sharing the story of the Northern Roots Oldham Garden as it progresses, so do follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for regular updates.
