GM Walking Festival

Tuesday 17th March 2020: Coronavirus update from Northern Roots

Following the latest government advice, Northern Roots is postponing all volunteering, consultation & engagement opportunities that involve people gathering, effective from today. This means that our GM Walking Festival events are currently postponed and will not go ahead as advertised. When the situation changes, we’ll update accordingly. Please get in touch with us at any time at northern.roots@oldham.gov.uk

Celebrating the joy of walking, the GM Walking Festival  encourages people across Greater Manchester to get out and enjoy a walk, make new connections, discover new places and reconnect with nature and the great outdoors.

This May, Northern Roots is celebrating GM Walking Festival with a month-long programme of guided walks on beautiful Snipe Clough, 160 acres of green space in the heart of Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Experience the magic of the dawn chorus on International Dawn Chorus Day with Mancunian Birder James Walsh, bring your little ones on a Bog Baby story walk inspired by Jeanne Willis’ award-winning children’s book, or join us on a herbal plant walk to learn about the traditional use of herbs in folk medicine and hear some fantastical tales along the way.

If you don’t fancy joining a guided walk, come and explore what Snipe Clough has to offer unaccompanied – wonderful wildlife, woodland trails, a tranquil haven in the heart of Oldham. Snipe Clough is open to the public seven days a week, so whether you want to go exploring with the kids, walk your dog or get muddy on mountain bikes with your mates, we welcome your visit. Find Us

And if you’ve got ideas for walks, runs or bike rides you’d like to organise on Snipe Clough, please share them with the Northern Roots team and we’ll see how we can support. Get in touch with us at northern.roots@oldham.gov.uk
